The main research areas of the Food Engineering Department concentrate around biosciences and biotechnology, nanotechnology, food chemistry and microbiological and food processing. These studies include the microbiological and chemical safety of food products and processes, defining and improving HACCP programs for different food sectors, biologically active food packaging, kinetic modeling of bacterial behavior, production and purification of value added bio-products, development and improvement of food processing techniques.
