History
The Faculty of Engineering, which started to offer undergraduate education in 1998-1999 academic year, has ten departments: Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Food Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Bioengineering, Energy Systems Engineering and Environmental Engineering.
The Departments of Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Food Engineering, Bioengineering, Materials Science and Engineering and Environmental Engineering offer bachelor’s degrees as well as master’s and doctoral degrees. The Department of Energy Systems Engineering offers a bachelor’s and master’s degree program. (An application has been made to the Council of Higher Education (YÖK) to open a PhD program in Energy Systems Engineering and approval is pending.) Under the Graduate School of Graduate Education, master’s and doctoral degrees are offered as graduate interdisciplinary programs.
In the 2022-2023 academic year, 3260 undergraduate and 839 graduate students (in departments and interdisciplinary programs supported by our Faculty as of 01.11.2022) continue in our departments. Undergraduate students in our faculty have the opportunity to double major and minor.
Undergraduate Programs of our Faculty have been accredited by MÜDEK, which is a member of the Washington Accord, which is affiliated with institutions responsible for accrediting Engineering programs such as ABET in the USA and ECUK in the UK, for the periods specified in the table below;

An accreditation application has been made for the undergraduate programs of the Department of Bioengineering and the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. The process is expected to be completed in 2025. These programs have also been given the “EUR-ACE Label” to be valid until the accreditation dates. This accreditation that our departments have received certifies that the students we train meet national and international quality standards and proves the competence of our graduates both in our country and abroad.
In the 1998-1999 Academic Year, our Faculty started education with 20 undergraduate students each in the departments of Computer Engineering, Chemistry and Mechanical Engineering. In the 2022-2023 Academic Year; 125 students were admitted to Computer Engineering, 96 students to Mechanical Engineering, 92 students to Civil Engineering, 66 students to Food Engineering, 84 students to Electrical-Electronics Engineering, 71 students to Chemical Engineering, 60 students to Environmental Engineering, 60 students to Materials Science and Engineering, 59 students to Bioengineering, and 50 students to Energy Systems Engineering, for a total of 763 students.
Our faculty will continue to work with the aim of educating engineers and scientists who are researchers, entrepreneurs, prone to teamwork, have advanced analysis and synthesis skills, have environmental awareness and social sensitivity by continuously improving their existing facilities.
