In this study, the ability of low-cost olive oil solid waste (OSW) to remove Al, As, Cd, Fe, B and Ti ions from aqueous solutions in short term has been evaluated. Adsorption capacities (mg g −1) of OSW (1:5-1:10 w/v) were 764.06-411.75 for Al, 0.26 for As, 0.07-0.14 for Cd, 2181.5-2406.5 for Fe, 23.70-82.50 for B and 0.12-0.0.34 for Ti. OSW addition increased acidic mine water (AMW) pH from 2.41 to 3.2 with 1:5 and from 2.41 to 2.7 to 1:10 mixing ratio, respectively, after 10 min. The best gradual decrease has been observed with different ratio of OSW applications on B and Ti concentrations. OSW adsorbs 32.41% and 62.68% of B at the ratio of 1:5 and 1:10 and 55.29% and 83.04% of Ti at the ratio of 1:5 and 1:10 (OSW:AMW) mixtures, respectively. The DCB test results showed that the initiation and propagation Mode-I fracture toughness values of the composites were significantly improved by 84 and 171% using PA 66-17 gsm veils respectively, as compared to reference laminates. The use of denser PA 66-50 gsm veils in the interlaminar region led to higher improvement in fracture toughness values (349% for initiation and 718% for propagation) due to the higher amount of veil fibers involved in fiber bridging toughening mechanism. The incorporation of PA 66-50 gsm nonwoven veils also increased the ILSS and Charpy impact strength of the composites by 25 and 15%, respectively. Concentrations of As, Cd, Cu, Fe, Mn, Pb, and Zn in river sediments downstream of the Tesbihdere and Koru mining district, and in the Umurbey dam sediments were higher than the world average for river sediments. The geoaccumulation index and enrichment factor revealed that sediments were strongly polluted with Pb and Zn, moderately to strongly polluted with Cd and moderately polluted with Cu. Although the use of steel fiber reinforced concrete elements is on the rise in recent years, present analytical models to determine the structural behavior of these members are inadequate, requiring numerical methods such as nonlinear finite element method. In this study, two steel fiber reinforced concrete beam and one ordinary reinforced concrete beam tested under static three-point bending were modeled with a Modified Compression Field Theory based nonlinear finite element method and results were investigated. In the method, Simplified Diverse Embedment Model was selected to model the tensile stresses transmitted between crack faces in cracked concrete. When analysis results were compared with experimental results, it was observed that the bending capacities and major cracks were captured with high accuracy, whereas displacement capacities were highly underpredicted. Although the major cracks were predicted with high accuracy, the fact that the model could not predict smaller cracks accurately and, as a result, the occurrence of a premature reinforcing bar failure at major cracks is believed to be the major reason for earlier failure of beams. More advanced models are needed for modeling the steel fiber reinforcement in order to obtain more accurate solutions.
